How Pico Laser Works

Pico lasers operate at picosecond pulse durations to deliver focused energy deep into the skin:

• Icon text: Breaks pigment into tiny particles for natural clearance
• Icon text: Photoacoustic effect minimises heat damage

The treatment uses different wavelengths (e.g., 532 nm, 755 nm, 1064 nm) depending on the depth and type of pigment or concern being treated, allowing clinicians to customise each session for optimal results. How Pico Laser Works

What is Pico Laser?

The Pico Laser is a cutting-edge non-ablative picosecond laser treatment that uses ultra-short bursts of laser energy — measured in picoseconds (one trillionth of a second) — to target pigmentation and stimulate skin rejuvenation. Unlike traditional lasers that heat tissue to achieve results, Pico lasers deliver high-intensity energy via a photoacoustic (mechanical) effect which breaks pigment into microscopic particles for easier natural removal by the body.

Pico Laser technology is widely used in aesthetic dermatology to improve uneven skin tone, reduce pigment spots, refine texture, and stimulate collagen with minimal thermal damage and reduced downtime compared to older laser systems.

What Does the Treatment Target?

Pico Laser can effectively treat a variety of skin concerns, including:

  • Pigmentation & Dark Spots — melasma, sunspots, age spots & freckles.
  • Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH) — dark marks from acne or injury.
  • Acne Scars & Texture — stimulates collagen to smooth the skin surface.
  • Large Pores & Uneven Tone — refines texture and enhances clarity.
  • Tattoo Removal — breaks down tattoo ink more effectively than older methods.
  • Skin Rejuvenation — boosts radiance, firmness, and overall skin health.

What to Expect During Treatment

Before your session, a clinician will evaluate your skin and tailor the laser settings based on your unique concerns.

During the procedure:

  • A mild numbing cream may be applied for comfort.
  • The laser handpiece delivers rapid picosecond pulses across the treatment area.
  • Most sessions last 15–30 minutes, depending on the target area and the intensity of treatment.

Patients often describe sensations similar to a light snapping or tingling during treatment.

Benefits of Pico Laser

  • Precision Pigment Clearance: Breaks pigment into ultra-fine particles for faster, more effective results.
  • Minimal Thermal Damage: Low heat exposure reduces risk of burns, scabbing, and prolonged inflammation.
  • Fewer Treatments Needed: Results often appear sooner compared to older laser technologies.
  • Stimulates Collagen: Encourages natural collagen and elastin production for smoother, firmer skin.
  • Quick Recovery: Most patients experience minimal downtime — mild redness or swelling typically resolves within hours to a couple of days.
  • Suitable for Many Skin Types: Pico Laser’s non-thermal mechanism makes it a safer option for a broader range of skin tones.
